We have recently been made aware of a phishing scam targeting domain name owners who have registered their domain name through Network Solutions. The phishing attempt attempts to fool domain name owners into visiting a fake website that looks like Network Solutions and providing their login details. This fake site then captures the username and password and the scammers will then attempt to take possession of the domain name for themselves.

For more information regarding this phishing scam, we encourage you to read our full posting on the myhosting.com Blog.

If you have registered your domain name with myhosting.com or mail2web.com, and you have received a suspicious email like this, we ask you to forward the email to our Customer Support Department. If you have any questions or concerns we invite you to contact us further assistance.

Being a techie, I recently upgraded my BlackBerry 8000 to the new BlackBerry Bold 9000. I like the Bold for a few reasons: 3G, WiFi, as well as the display and keyboard. But this post is not about the BlackBerry Bold 9000, but rather, the importance of Mobile devices in today’s workforce.

In the present business environment, mobile devices have become vital tools that extend the mobility of the workforce. Current devices are extremely powerful and portable. This allows Enterprises of all sizes to provide information and business applications to employees on demand where ever they are.

In my case, the BlackBerry plays a key role in supporting the myhosting.com and mail2web.com environments. Our proactive monitoring systems send alerts to my mobile device to warn of any issues that might be arising. Colleagues and customers can reach me at any time in the day via PIN or Email messaging. All communication on the BlackBerry is encrypted, so security is maintained even outside of the office. The BlackBerry also supports Yahoo and Google Instant Messaging platforms. This can be useful for both business and personal communication.

The main features I use with my BlackBerry are PIN messaging and email. PIN messages can be exchanged between BlackBerry users securely and quickly, helping me stay in contact with colleagues. With email, BlackBerry supports attachment viewing such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe and others. It allows me to access my calendar and view, edit or add meetings and appointments on the road. These are extremely important features in today’s fast changing enterprise.

Using mail2web.com email services and signing up for a BlackBerry account, businesses can also make use of these features. For example, sales managers can push leads to sales staff instantaneously, and staff can be notified of product updates. At mail2web.com we offer BlackBerry Enterprise Service, and these services can also be used with Windows Mobile devices and the Apple iPhone.

The internet allows us to be “connected” and mobile devices take it to the next level and allow us to be connected anywhere.

5- On the next window, enter your Exchange Account info. If you don’t know your Exchange Account information, then continue with Step 6.

6- Login to your control panel at: https://support.mail2web.com

8- On the next screen, click on “GO” button (End-User Management) for the user you want to setup the account.

9- Next, click on “View ActiveSync Settings” link for the selected user.

10- This window will give you all the information you need to setup your account. If you will ever have a problem on this step of the process, it will most likely be with your username. There are two ways to enter your username. You can either use good practices and enter it as Exchange and Apple want you to which is: Domain\Username. If your domain says: AD9 and your username is joedoe@domain.com then enter your username as: ad9\joedoe@domain.com. Or you can simply type your username only and ignore the “domain\” part. Both works in mail2web.

11- Once you did enter your info, continue with the setup by touching “NEXT” button.

12- If everything goes well, then you should have your Exchange Account ready to use. You may continue to customize for your own needs like not disabling sync for contacts, calendars etc. Keep in mind that iPhone ActiveSync does not sync Notes which is a bummer.

I hope you found this guide useful. If you already own an iPhone or planning to buy one then visit our Community Portal located at http://portal.myhosting.com and share your experiences or ideas…

Today we have launched a new feature for mail2web.com Business Exchange, one which many Microsoft Exchange users may already be familiar with as a useful tool for booking meetings or appointments within your company or organization - Resources and Rooms.

Basically what this allows you to do is to create additional Exchange accounts which are allocated specifically for a meeting room or a peice of equipment. The equipment can literally be any shared equipment you company owns, from an overhead projector to a vehicle.

To create a room or a resource, you can follow these steps:

Log into your control panel at https://support.mail2web.com.

Under Active Paid Services click on Business Exchange.

Under Admin Management click on Manage Resource Mailboxes.

Click Add a Resource Mailbox to set one up for a room or a resource.

Please note that these types of resource mailboxes are included free with your Business Exchange service, there is no cost to set up as many as you need.

Once you’ve added your room or resource, you’ll be able to see it from the Global Address List in Outlook or the OWA.

When you are scheduling an appointment or a meeting, you can add your Room or Equipment as a Resource. If you click on the Scheduling Assistant button in Outlook, you can even see the Free/Busy information not only for your attendees, but also for your resources.

Once you’ve booked your Meeting, if the room or equipment is available, the resource mailbox will automatically accept your meeting request.

If the room or equipment is not available, the resource mailbox will automatically decline your meeting request and will provide you with details about the conflicting meeting.

We use this feature within our own company to book an reserve meeting rooms, and find it very useful to ensure there are no conflicts for meeting spaces. I’m sure that within most companies you will be able to make use of this feature, and I hope it helps add value to your mail2web.com Business Exchange experience.

Thanks,

The trend in mobile communications is all about anywhere access to your data; on your device, on your desktop or laptop computer or from a web browser. Having all of your devices “synced” has become the expectation for business users and now more and more consumers expect the same.

With all the excitement surrounding the release of Apple’s new iPhone 2.0 last week, one big question is where do I get one? Of all the features that it brings to the table, the one sticks out as being the most likely to impact the mobile phone world; support for “push” email and over the air sync of contacts and calendar items. That is great news for everyone who has an exchange server and wants an iPhone, but what about everyone else?

Apple has created a solution called mobile me, really just the next evolution of the .MAC account. They are calling it “Exchange for the rest of us” but what does that mean? If you are a mac user, mobile me is a great way to get the most out of your new iPhone. But with a PC running Outlook and a mobile me account what do you get? You can setup Outlook to access your name@me.com email account. Using the Windows control panel you can also configure your contacts and calendar items from Outlook to sync with your mobile me account. It is fine for email but less than perfect for calendar and contacts.

In March of 2008, Apple and Microsoft announced a new agreement to offer built-in support for Microsoft Exchange on the iPhone. Today, June 9th 2008, the firmware update that will enable this feature is set to be released at the WorldWide Developer Conference 2008 (WWDC 2008). So what does this mean to you as an iPhone owner?

On-the-road access to your Contacts: Your e-mail address book and information storage for the people and businesses you want to communicate with

View and add/modify items in your Calendar: The calendar and scheduling component of Outlook that’s fully integrated with e-mail, contacts, and other features

Real-time, over the air synchronization for your e-mail, contacts, tasks and calendar items via Microsoft ActiveSync

Protect your business via customizable security policies: Includes the ability to remotely wipe all data from a lost or stolen iPhone, and to require security provisions for e-mail such as a password or PIN access

How does mail2web.com fit into all of this? One of our most popular product offerings is mail2web LIVE, a free personal Microsoft Exchange 2003 account with ActiveSync technology, which keeps your Apple iPhone up to date with e-mail, contacts, private calendar, tasks, and more!

Earlier this week, we launched Entourage 2008 for all mail2web.com Business Exchange Professional users. For those Mac users who are currently using Entourage 2004, now is the time to upgrade! The Entourage 2008 package can be downloaded from the mail2web.com Control Panel in the End User Management area, or through the OWA by clicking on Email Settings.

For those of you choosing to go ahead with Entourage 2008, we’d like to let you know that there is already an upgrade for Office 2008. Once you have finished installing Entourage 2008, we highly recommend that you install the upgrade. It is available directly from Microsoft. We also recommend running the Microsoft AutoUpdate and the Mac AutoUpdate periodically to keep all of your software as up-to-date as possible.

Although Entourage 2008 includes a lot of updates and new features, some of the enhancements we expected for Exchange did not materialize. The Exchange Account configuration for Entourage 2008 is virtually identical to Entourage 2004, and does not include any direct MAPI support as is available in Outlook 2007. But that doesn’t mean that there are no new Exchange features… some of the new features include:

Out of Office Assistant

Free/Busy info Pull-up

Delegate Rights Management

Interoperability with Outlook 2007

To read more about these features and many other updated features, we invite you to read Part I and Part II of the Entourage 2008 New features blog posts by Amir.

Apple has been taking steps recently to get back into the mobile device market, especially with the launch of the iPhone. It’s possibly their most inspired product since the Apple Newton! The most recent product launch by Apple is the new MacBook Air. There has been a lot of discussion on whether the “world’s thinnest notebook” is also the world’s best thin notebook, but you have to applaud Apple for pushing the envelope of portable computing. With AppleTV, there were some significant improvements in the 2nd generation. Therefore I think we can look forward to even more from the MacBook Air version 2.

And whether you’re using a MacBook Air or a regular MacBook or MacBook Pro, you can still bring your mail2web.com Exchange account on the road with you. We spend a lot of time talking about Outlook and Windows Mobile devices, but don’t forget about Microsoft’s line of Mac Products including Entourage. Entourage allows Mac users to get much of the same functionality out of their Exchange account that Outlook users get. Just think of it as Microsoft Outlook for the Mac.

A free license for Microsoft Entourage 2004 comes included with each mail2web.com Exchange Professional Plan. And with the launch of Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 we hope to offer Entourage 2008 very soon.

So with your brand new MacBook Air, it’s never been easier to take your Microsoft Exchange account on the road.

It took a while but Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Microsoft Exchange 2007 is finally here. For some of you this launch won’t change much but for those of us that use the OWA (Outlook Web Access - http://ex7.mail2web.com/) the impact is very significant. When Exchange 2007 launched last year there were a few key features from OWA 2003 that were omitted in the OWA for 2007. Early adopters of the new Exchange offering came to realize that there were some short comings with the new OWA. In my line of work the release of SP1 was a blessing. Personally, I was getting tired of having to explain that the missing functionality would be restored as soon as Microsoft launched the service pack. Well it’s finally here and now Exchange 2007 is a proper replacement for Exchange 2003.With the installation of SP1 on our Exchange 2007 servers our customers now have the use of the following features that were previously unavailable in the OWA.

* Personal Distribution Lists
* S/MIME (for email encryption)
* Rules Management
* Monthly Calendar View
* Deleted Items Recovery
* Public Folder Access

These features were still available in Outlook. Only those of us who used the OWA to view their mail were impacted by these missing components. Microsoft had its reasons for leaving these features out of the OWA but later announced that they would be returning with the launch of SP1. To say that we were anxious for SP1 to arrive was a bit of an understatement. As soon as we received the Service Pack from Microsoft we began planning the upgrade for our system. Our customers that had moved over to Exchange 2007 were looking for the return of the missing features and we wanted to restore them as soon as possible. Within a few days of receiving SP1 it was installed.

In addition to the return of the features mentioned above the OWA now has spell checking support for Arabic and Korean. For those of you that would like to take a read of Microsoft’s official write up of what’s new for Exchange 2007 with the release of SP1 move your mouse cursor over the following link and click away.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676323(EXCHG.80).aspx

At the moment we are currently in the process of migrating our existing Exchange 2003 customers over to Exchange 2007. It’s nice to know that once we get everyone moved over that the features you were using on 2003 are now available in 2007. The move should be completed very shortly and if you haven’t received a notice from us about your account being migrated you will be very soon. As an early “heads up” to those of you that use Outlook to check your mail you’ll need to edit your settings once you’ve been migrated over to Exchange 2007. If you’d like to get a head start you can make the changes now before the migration. Changing your settings early won’t cause any headaches as your account will continue to work as it always has and it will work after you’ve been migrated. The settings you’ll need can be found in your control panel (https://support.mail2web.com/) or you can contact your friendly neighbourhood support team at support@mail2web.com and we’ll help you out.

Social Networking sites like Facebook and MySpace are getting a lot of attention lately. Depending on where you work, these kinds of sites might not have a place in your corporate world. However its easy social networking concept can be utilized in a company environment.

The concept of connecting people with similar interests in social networking sites allows friends to connect and interact together with various common web applications, such as photo albums, blogs and forums. The same concept can be extended to employees within a company or organization, allowing them to connect co-workers working on various projects or goals and interact with each other online. But the most popular social networks aren’t necessarily the most appropriate places to share confidential corporate information. Windows SharePoint Services has been around for years, and can offer a number of the features you’ll find in these social networking tools as well as offering a more appropriate location to store sensitive company information.

You can create password protected sites with accounts for each employee. The employees can then customize their personal profile, organize themselves into groups, departments, workgroups, or project teams and then begin sharing. They can share and contribute using document libraries, blogs, forums, calendars, contact lists and even photo libraries. You can create sub-sites for specialized departments or teams with private versions of each application, customized for that group. There are even applications that allow you to create wikis, surveys and tasks. User and Group level permissions allow you to prevent access on various levels, ensuring that confidential information in one area is visible only to those who “need-to-know”.

And what about extending it further to customizable applications? There are some templates that have been pre-written, such as bug database, event planning, knowledge base, employee activities, new store opening, request for proposal, and even sports league. These are just a few examples, and this can be customized even further by the savvy administrator by creating a custom templates designed for a specific purpose, or even even custom web-parts and workflow elements within the template. You can also use SharePoint Designer to ever greater advantage of this powerful platform.

All of this can be especially useful if you have remote workers who you still want to contribute to or access to any of this information. And with a free 30 trial, why not try it out? All you need to get started are users that are ready to contribute.
