Devices & Mobility

Get FREE push email on your iPhone 2.0 today!

The trend in mobile communications is all about anywhere access to your data; on your device, on your desktop or laptop computer or from a web browser. Having all of your devices “synced” has become the expectation for business users and now more and more consumers expect the same.

With all the excitement surrounding the release of Apple’s new iPhone 2.0 last week, one big question is where do I get one? Of all the features that it brings to the table, the one sticks out as being the most likely to impact the mobile phone world; support for “push” email and over the air sync of contacts and calendar items. That is great news for everyone who has an exchange server and wants an iPhone, but what about everyone else?

Apple has created a solution called mobile me, really just the next evolution of the .MAC account. They are calling it “Exchange for the rest of us” but what does that mean? If you are a mac user, mobile me is a great way to get the most out of your new iPhone. But with a PC running Outlook and a mobile me account what do you get? You can setup Outlook to access your name@me.com email account.  Using the Windows control panel you can also configure your contacts and calendar items from Outlook to sync with your mobile me account. It is fine for email but less than perfect for calendar and contacts.

The answer is to get a fully functioning exchange account from mail2web.com. We offer several solutions from our free mail2webLIVE up to full business class exchange email. All of our exchange accounts include full iPhone/iPod touch support. Recently, the well known tech blogs Gizmodo and engadget showcased our solution to test the function of exchange sync on the new iPhone 2.0.

With an exchange account from mail2web.com all of your emails as well as your contacts and calendar item are always accessible and synced to your device, any device.  You get true real time “push” email and 24/7 live support. Best of all, you can try it free for the first month.

Looking for something to do while you wait for your new iPhone? Get your mail2web.com exchange account now.

  3. Sounds great but the message is a bit confusing.

All the way through the article you say it’s free and that all versions of your service off push email for the iPhone, but in your penultimate paragraph you say it’s free for the first month.

So…if I set it up on the ad-based free version I can get push email on my iPhone for a month and then I need to upgrade to a pay service on mail2web if I want to continue?

  4. This is pretty much worthless unless I can upload my contacts, etc…
Since enabling sync says it’ll nuke everything on my phone and I currently have nothing on mobile2web … well I’m not that excited about a service which allows me to wirelessly delete everything on my phone…

    Have fun!

  8. Thanks for all the comments. I agree the iPhone is very cool.

I thought I would answer some of the questions and provide some more information.

First we offer three exchange email plans and all of them work perfectly with the new iPhone.

mail2webLIVE is a completely free ad supported webmail only exchange plan.

Our Personal exchange plan or mail2webLIVE+ is ad free, allows you to access your mail from a desktop as well as the webmail and cost only $4.95 a month. This plan also includes a control panel tool to import your contacts and calendar in a PST format.

The full business grade email solution on your own domain and full Outlook integration is $14.95 a month. If you want to try this plan out it is 100% free for the first 30 days.

If you need help getting your mail2web exchange account setup on your iPhone here are the steps.

    1.For Personal and mail2webLIVE

    2.For Business Exchange

If you have any questions our Customer Support team is available 24/7 to help.

  13. Aren’t you required to have an AT&T enterprise dataplan (additional $15 a month) to access Exchange servers on the Iphone?

    Posted by EO | July 17, 2008, 9:41 am
  14. Hello All,
I did purchase my iPhone 3G yesterday (in San Francisco) and can answer most of your questions… Just to answer EO.

Att asks you to subscribe to a $30 unlimited data plan. In addition you need to subscribe to a SMS plan, if not you end up paying 20 cents a message. 200 SMS plan is $5. So on top of your voicemail, you end up paying $35/month. I hope this answers your question.

  15. I can do all the registration of the live account without problem, and if I am on the computer I can log in through the web page and it works ok, but I configured the iphone as you said and It doesn’t work, It doesn’t even download the emails after presing the email bottom, so don’t even dream of push email. However It send emails properly. Any idea of why does it happens?
I am from Spain, but as far as I know the service works also here.
    Thanks

  16. Stephan,

So if you just want push email only, and want to put up with adsupported email( not that bad i assume), than it is completely free of charge? I could care less about the contact and calander sync, as a have a mac. this does sound like a tremendous deal. i feel like apple did screw everyone bc when they first announced mobile me (which sounded amazing) there was no notion of this $100 yearly fee.its almost as if they insenuated that it was completly free. it wasn’t until 3 or 4 days later after they released a whole instructional trailer did they in fact post the subscription price. kinda bullsht

also, btw, does any one know how quick the push actually takes per email? thanx all

    Posted by Dylan | July 17, 2008, 1:02 pm
  17. Trying the service now and I am far from satisfied. Sent or received email has yet to “push” :(

    Posted by ziadeh | July 17, 2008, 3:59 pm
  19. this works with the 1G iphone and iTouch, people. no need to complain about plans

however, i do wish someone would offer free push email. this isn’t truely free, only for 30 days, actually less than apple’s 60. it seems your best chance for push is through your work, if they support it, or deal with only getting your email every 15 minutes…as opposed to right then and there. and if you NEED that, your work should supply it.

    Posted by jake | July 17, 2008, 9:18 pm
  20. @EO No you don’t need the Enterprise Plan unless your exchange server is behind a firewall or otherwise won’t work with the standard data plan. I wondered the same thing and that’s what the AT&T rep. told me. My employers exchange/webmail isn’t inside a firewall and it works perfect with the iphone.

On another note… I believe you can only sync 1 exchange account at a time so I would have to disable my work account if I wanted to use mail2web to sync my Gmail Calendar. Hmm….

  27. This link will show how to set up push mail to your iPhone.

    http://lifehacker.com/398526/set-up-push-email-contacts-and-calendar-on-your-iphone-for-free

Works beautifully and provides a proper ‘push’ email solution.

This is completely free and does not expire after 30 days. There are 2 paid options which offer add-free solution, but you can use the free one for personal use, if you don’t mind the ads:

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can get this second push email account to work?

    Thanks.

  41. The Good
This is it. It sync all my contacts, calendars and emails on the mobile. I am not afraid of any hard disk crushing and losing all my contacts and calendars anymore. The emails are pushed to my mobile instantly once they arrived at mail2web.

To read emails from gmail account, just forward emails to mail2web account in gmail settings. So far everything works well and best of all its FREE!

The Bad or Not so Good (Not Totally Bad)
The mail2web website is somewhat slow. How I wish it was as fast as google, but google has got more resources than mail2web. I hope the speed will improve over time.

Overall I will give mail2web 4.5/5 stars for no fuss, secure sync on Exchange for FREE.

  47. I tried the free version of mail2web and it works but it’s really slow to push my email, it was reasonably fast at first (2-5 mins) but the last few days it’s been 20 mins or more. I send a bunch of test emails to myself to time it. I’m not sure if it’s only the free accounts that are slow but it’s not going to work for me. Does anyone know if the paid accounts are faster?

I signed up for a 60 day free trial of mobile me and it’s really fast - pushes my test emails to myself within 10 seconds. Since I’m only going to be using it for email I’m not sure it’s worth the $109/year. I wish the iphone would support IMAP idle like I had on the Treo, it was awesome and free (after you paid $30 for the email program).

If you have a Mail2web Live or Personal Exchange account the server should be set to: mobile.exchange.mail2web.com

If you have a Business Exchange account then the server setting should be:
    ex7.mail2web.com

  74. Please use correct English when you post on here. I need a damned A-Team decoder ring to read what in the hell you are all TRYING to say. It’s what prevents you from promotion and respect. If you can’t write and communicate correctly, you are not going to get a whole lot of respect. Period. No one will tell you that, but it is indeed true.

Posted by English Basics Please | September 7, 2008, 1:26 pm
  75. I meant to say that if you are not native to English it is fairly understandable that your English will indeed be broken, however to the native speakers out there clean up your act or you will be treated as a second rate dummy. I really have a hard time with people who can’t communicate their thoughts clearly in their own native language. You sound like retards.

Sounds great but the message is a bit confusing.

All the way through the article you say it’s free and that all versions of your service off push email for the iPhone, but in your penultimate paragraph you say it’s free for the first month.

So…if I set it up on the ad-based free version I can get push email on my iPhone for a month and then I need to upgrade to a pay service on mail2web if I want to continue?”

It sure sounds that way Doug. They should be upfront and say, first month free.
Thanks for an addition to my vocabulary, the word “Penultimate.” I always find the definition of words I’m not familiar with. Thank you! :)

Posted by Daniyal Khamisani | September 30, 2008, 11:20 pm
  93. Hello Daniyal,

I am not sure if I understood your question correctly. Push Mail, SMS and GPRS are 3 different functionalities and technologies in iPhone.

With Push Mail, you utilize services like ours (mail2web.com) so that whenever an email is sent to your account, your iPhone receives it automatically. It also syncs your Calendars, Contacts over the air.

SMS is different than Push Mail and it is between devices. With SMS, you can message anyone that has an active cell phone, they don’t need to have email accounts.

General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a packet oriented Mobile Data Service available to users of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and IS-136 mobile phones. It provides data rates from 56 up to 114 kbit/s. GPRS is a technology which is changing the present shape of mobile communication. Basically it is your connection between your iphone and your carrier.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you,
    Community Manager

  94. Hello Michelle and Doug,

No that is not correct. If you get our Ad-Based Free service which is called mail2webLIVE, it does not end after 30 days. You continue to use it for free as long as you like.

If you visit this page: http://services.mail2web.com/Services/exchangesolutions.asp you will see that we have 3 different accounts.

First one (mail2weblive) is free but comes with ads.
Second one (mail2web Personal) is not free and it is only $4.95/month.
Finally our full blown business solutions mail2web professional is $14.95/month.

I hope this clears out evrything.

    Thank you

  95. > GPRS is a location feature and let’s you utilize programs like
    > Google Maps, Navigation Applications. With the help of GPRS you
    > may get directions to where you are going, see where you
    > currently are etc

That is completely, entirely, 100% incorrect.

GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Service. It is a mobile data technology, specifically the predecessor to EDGE (which is sometimes called EGPRS.)

GPS, what you described, is a completely different technology and is in no way related to GPRS.

  104. Hello Amit,
Which Nokia you are referring to? Nokia N95
    THanks

Posted by Community Manager | October 14, 2008, 2:16 pm
  105. N95 is nothing compared to the iphone. smaller screen, much worse interface, no decent games or apps, less memory. But its up to you really. Iphone isn’t perfect, but sure beats the hell out of N95

  110. I’m currently using Outlook with IMAP email via bluehost.com (my own domain). I want email pushed to my iPhone, but still have it sync with my Outlook inbox, subfolders and sent mail? If I use any of Mail2Web’s push email services, will it allow me to view on my phone the same emails and folders I see in Outlook on my PC? If so, which service do I need?

  111. Can’t find real information on using iPhone MAP or PUSH software to sync my email accounts. I’ve searched the site, but keep coming back to a letter from the VP of sales with no active link discussing iPhone and iMAP connectivity. Maybe I don’t know what I’m looking for, but if someone has a iPhone and used myhosting/mail2web and received integrated email on computer and phone please advise.

  117. Hello Evans Komollo,
As you mentioned, M90+ is a Chinese made phone. Does it come with ActiveSync? If it does then you can use our services…

  120. This works great- however, after 2 days of use, I found a potentially fatal flaw-

I am forwarding my work email (which doesn’t support activesync) to my mail2web account. However, when I go to reply to or create new email, it shows up with my mail2web address as the sender, reply-to, etc.- I need it to show my work email as the reply-to.

How can I accomplish this, oh wise mail2web ones? :-) I’d be willing to move to a paid account if you could support this.

  121. I know I am being stupid, but I have a very simple question. Is this phone free or not?

    Posted by Tiesys | November 11, 2008, 4:20 am
  122. Hello Tiesys,
Unfortunately iPhone 3G is not a free phone. Depending on your country and the carrier you are using, you may be eligible for some discounts though.
    Thank you,

  124. Cool looking phone? Gourges phone? I wish I did not buy this phone. With this phone you CANNOT send or receive text messages with a picture, you CANNOT take a video. Yes, this phone looks cool, it’s gourges, but what good is that while it sits in my pocket. I would not have bought this phone if my old phone was not going dead.

  126. Jim, if you need those features then get a another phone. If you want video buy a video camera. Not having MMS is not the end of the world, there’s work arounds.
